Here’s my take…

I like Marco, I enjoy his tumblr and he’s a very nice guy in real life as well. It bothers me when I read people who attack him without good reason. However I have to respectfully disagree with his premise in the link above.

I have no problem with standing behind what I post here, people can contact me, and i’m not stating my opinions anonymously. Frankly I think the folks who want to criticize people anonymously are cowards. You mention vimeo, which as far as I know doesn’t have a mechanism in place to prevent people to post anonymously. Correct me if i’m wrong but they will just ban you if they don’t like what you have to say.

Its been said before and it still seems like sound advice. You do not want to get into the business of policing content here, it’s a slippery slope and takes you away from what you should be doing, continuing to refine the tools that made tumblr great in the first place and coming up with new ones to make it even better.

I think the community here can police themselves. Bad ideas get shouted down, good ideas will rise to the top. If someone is simply spouting nonsense and unwarrented criticism of other tumblrs, nobody is going to listen. If the criticism is earned, the community will propogate it, with good reason.

Expecting nothing but positivity out of every tumblr all the time is unrealistic, and worrying about the content to the degree where you feel the need to manipulate how those accounts behave, in my opinion, is a mistake.

There are concerns that once again accounts are being targeted, without a clear reason. Again, this is your baby, and ultimately you guys call the shots. We don’t know what is going on anymore. You don’t owe Owen Thomas an explanation, but I think better communication to the community could mitigate having to deal with unneccessary rumors.
